Barry Edward Cornish, 95, of Belleville, Ontario, "fell off the perch" on May 7, 2026. Barry grew up in Belleville before heading to Toronto, where he attended university and met the love of his life and future wife, Velma (née Broadbent). Together, they traveled the world, raising a family—and a little hell—along the way. After retiring from a 30-year career as a teacher, he and Velma enjoyed winters in the south of France and summers at the cottage, playing boules and cards with family and friends. A lover of music, cheap cigars and wines of questionable vintage, Barry spent his recent years enjoying both, while watching the Blue Jays and reminiscing with his lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Ed Broadbent, about their shared adventures and shenanigans. His sly sense of humor and endearing laugh will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his sons, Cameron and Christopher (Heather), and his loving grandchildren, Catherine, James, Sarah, and Molly. Not one for formalities (or undue expenditures), Barry did not wish for a service. His ashes will join Velma’s in the places they loved best. Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
