With great sadness, we announce the passing of John “Poncho” Kajak on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the age of 59, following a brief illness. Poncho is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Kajak; his children, Brandy (Sean) Gibbons of Petawawa, Marlaina Kajak of Barrie, John Kajak of Huntsville, Martin (Brittany) Kajak of Bancroft, and Mitchell Kajak of Bancroft. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, April, Russell, Ainslee, and Aubree. Poncho worked for many years as both a conventional and mechanical forester, as well as a heavy equipment operator. He was recognized by Tembec as Mechanical Forester of the Year for achieving less than 5% stand damage while operating a feller buncher - a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to his work. Poncho and Kimberly shared a love of horsepower and roaring engines. They enjoyed attending demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, snowmobile races, and ATV adventures together, but also cherished their quieter moments spent canoeing and taking spontaneous road trips with no particular destination in mind. Poncho treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, especially teaching them how to drive the riding lawn mower and ATV, and more importantly, creating memories they will carry forever. He deeply loved his children and often shared stories from their younger years. He was immensely proud of each of them. He also enjoyed hunting and ATVing with his brother Kurt, often reminiscing about their childhood together. Poncho lived a life many would find hard to imagine — one filled with challenges, resilience, and determination. Life was not always easy, but he never gave up. He was larger than life: ten feet tall and bulletproof in the eyes of those who knew him. He could walk the walk and talk the talk. Honest, hardworking, kind, and fiercely protective of his family, Poncho leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, and love. As per Poncho’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to A Charity of Choice would be appreciated by the family.
