Peacefully, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Barry’s Bay, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.  Joan Florent, age 83 of Madawaska, was the beloved wife of the late Garry Florent (2014) and the late William Aleck (2002).  Loving mother of Laurie Barnes (William), June Clouthier (Wade), Steve Aleck (Amanda), and Kim Florent.  Loving grandmother of Angela (Ed), Jonathan (Ashleigh), Miranda, Matthew (Becca), Michelle (Sam), Mark (Autumn), Kate (Josh), Will (Emily), and Tyler.  Great-grandmother of Emma, Savaya, Landen, Holden, Carmella, Stirling, Ethan, Kaleb, Rosy, Toby, Madison, Mackenzie, Makayla, Michael, Ayden, Gracie, Riley, Dallas, Carter, Hollie, Tobias, and Elsa.  Sister of Gwen Coulas, Gerald August (Gail), Gary August (Carol Ann), and the late Gene, Pat, and Dorothy.  Joan loved to fish, cook, and her bingo.  She worked in Algonquin Park at Lake of Two Rivers for many years.  She loved being a grandma!  Her grandkids and great grandkids were everything to her.  She will be greatly missed by everyone.  Many thanks to the staff of the Valley Manor who treated mom like their mom. Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Madawaska Complex (26A Major Lake Road, Madawaska) on Monday from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (25348 Highway 60, Madawaska) on Tuesday, February 03, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Malachy Ekezie presiding, followed by a luncheon back at the Madawaska Centre.  Cremation will follow with interment at St. Matthew’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Francis Health Care Foundation would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
