Franck, Lorraine

Lorraine Franck passed away peacefully in her home on Williams Lake Road, Maynooth in the early hours of Monday, January 19, 2026, at the age of 93. She was the devoted mother of Ivan (Carol) of Maynooth and Byron of Calgary, and loving grandmother of Jonathan (Victoria) of Wingham; Jordan of Guelph; Kaelynne (IJ) of Ottawa; and Kathryn (John) of Palmerston. She will be missed by her great grandchildren Lilah, Alden, Rosalyn, and Rowan (Jonathan’s children), Zannalia and Peimila (Kaelynne’s children), and William and Reed (Kathryn’s children).  Lorraine (Lammigje) was born in Holland on August 26, 1932, to Gerrit and Jantina Vos. She is survived by her sister Beatrice of Edmonton and predeceased by two brothers, Hank and Henry, and sister Roelie. The family immigrated to Canada in August 1950 when Lorraine was almost 18 years old. She quickly became employed as a nanny for a family with two young children as she was gaining more proficiency in English. Later, she worked at a seed packing company, and then the CIBC bank for several years. During this time, she met Paul and her two sons were born. They travelled across Canada and lived in seven provinces before settling in Ontario in Wainfleet. She owned the Royal Restaurant in Welland and enjoyed cooking there, as well as cooking later at the Algonquin Lodge in Lake St. Peter and the Arlington Hotel in Maynooth.  In 1985, Lorraine began building her home just outside of Maynooth on Baragar Lake. She loved nature, making paths in the woods, gardening, and living on the lake. Lorraine was a strong proponent of organic gardening and healthy eating. She enjoyed nature, handiwork, crocheting, quilting, and making rugs, and could at times be found at the Maynooth Market selling her handiwork.  Lorraine was a devoted grandmother who spent many days inspiring her grandchildren to try different things like cheeses or create unique treats like pizza snakes or popcorn bears. One day, Lorraine excitedly asked if we could guess what meat she had roasted for supper. It was kangaroo—to the delight of the grandchildren! During the summers, she participated in helping them to learn to grow food, and to plant and harvest a garden. 2025 was a year of both her most life changing falls but also her greatest recent travel adventures. She was able visit each of her four grandchildren’s homes last year and also went to see the home she and Paul built in Wainfleet, Niagara area. She spent most days reading and has enjoyed her weekly call with her son, Byron, while Ivan and Carol had moved in to care for her. Mom/grandma will be missed and remembered for her various interests, her excitement to try new things, and her desire to inspire others to learn new ways. We celebrate her life and the positives that she leaves behind in our hearts. A time of remembrance will be held at the M.G. Daly Funeral Home (200 Old Hastings Road, Maynooth), on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with visitation at 10 a.m., Service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Garry Robinson officiating. Lunch to follow at the Daly Funeral Home. Spring interment will be at Grace Cemetery, Maynooth.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
