Thornton, Thomas Alexander (1945 -2026)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Alexander Thornton, who departed this life peacefully on Jan.1, 2026 at Quinte Health, North Hastings Hospital in Bancroft, ON at the age of 80. Tom was born on April 17,1945 in Lindsay, ON to Bob and Helen Thornton.  Tom was a loving husband to Nancy, his wife of 35 yrs., and a wonderful father to his 4 children, Sherida Harcus (Marc) of Spencerville, ON, Thomas Thornton Jr. (Victoria) Shediac River, NB, Kevin Thornton (predeceased 2020), and Melanie Thornton Westport, ON.  He was a proud Grandfather to his 6 grandchildren, Alexandria, Sean (Rebecca), and Lachlan (Thornton), Liam and Nicholas (Harcus), and great granddaughter Isabella (Thornton). Brother to Robert Thornton Jr. (Sharon) Toronto, ON.  After graduating high school from Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Lindsay, ON, Tom went straight to the oat mill to work at the Quaker Oats Co. in Peterborough, ON.  He successfully rose through the ranks to become Plant Manager and later a director within the company.  After finishing his career, he enjoyed retirement at his beloved Kennaway property in Harcourt, ON and never grew tired of being surrounded by nature in a place he had cherished in his youth with his parents.  Tom will be remembered by family, friends and colleagues in too many ways to share, but especially for his unwavering love of his family, love of nature, and his big personality that he shared while recounting his many stories and jokes. He enjoyed a good game of cards with his many friends and especially was fond of spending many hours with his grandchildren playing a spirited game of poker. Tom had requested a private family gathering after cremation.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to his local Harcourt Community Center, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society – Relay for Life would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
