Sanderson, George Robert Lewis

George was always driven to understand how things work: to measure, configure, calibrate, assess, adapt, repair, and enhance while experiencing, sensing and capturing, not only technical details and records, but also creatively in his passion for music, photography, the arts and nature.  His high threshold for concentration and information retention and retrieval, combined with an aptitude for electronic engineering propelled his early career providing sound engineering/mixing and live/studio recording for radio, capturing iconic performers and cultural events/concerts on reel to reel, vinyl and in black and white. Relocating to homestead and raise a family in the Ottawa Valley, George arrived in the Wilno hills, in a silver Porsche, with an extensive music library and enough amplifiers to rattle the cups off the shelves and wake the neighbours several concessions away. Compassion for people living with disabilities led he and his then wife to provide 'high-tech' equipment, service and training to partially sighted and blind individuals across Ontario, which enabled reading, communications and greater autonomy for the blind. He integrated into the 'alternative' community through the creation of an elaborate CB radio network, that connected families far and wide through relay messaging, before the prevalence of telephones. For the broader community he was an asset due to his skills in repairing just about anything and later his progressive understanding of network systems, compute language, software writing and digital integration/data transfer from analog archives. Above all, George liked to help people out and to make people laugh with his fast paced, dry, often crass and even lewd sarcasm. Always, he gave the gift of music.

His many new and lifelong friends attest to the joy they shared in music, comedy, creation, building, engineering, designing, developing, recording or just shooting the breeze over coffee, a sudsie or the B side of a new album. If you had a problem, he'd do his best to find a solution.  He'd say it like it is, in his deep, unforgettable voice, and find the irony to leave you with a chuckle, or a sore stomach from laughing too hard. George passed peacefully in Pembroke, Ontario, with the gracious support and company of friends, family, his dedicated volunteers and the staff at the Miramichi Lodge, especially the Lakehouse team.

He leaves a legacy of imagination and determination, and an great appreciation for humour and music to his children, god-children, grand, great and step grandchildren, extended family, and his many dear friends and acquaintances. In lieu of flowers, 'Don't buy crap you can't fix';

Keep learning, always; and Take the time to help a neighbour, have a laugh and enjoy some live music with a friend. A private service will be held in the near future to celebrate the life and legend of George Sanderson, 'the Jiver'. Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
