Lavalley, Raymond Francis

“Every time a bell rings an angel gets their wings.” It’s a Wonderful Life

Bells must have been ringing the morning of Monday, December 30, 2024, when Ray Lavalley, age 88 of Lake St. Peter, peacefully took his last breath here on earth at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Barry’s Bay, following an almost 3-month hospitalization.  Ray was the beloved husband of Marlene (nee Baragar) for 65 years. Cherished dad of Richard (Michelle) of Mississauga, Wayne (Lisa) of Oakville, Brian of Puerto Morelos, Mexico and Wendy of Lake St. Peter. Loved Grampa of Brooke and Scarlett. His memory will be cherished by his siblings Dorothy of Huntsville, Tommy (Linda) of Oshawa, Jack (Sharon) of Whitney, Ursula of Huntsville, Philip (Yvonne) of Sabine, and Hilda (Harry) Scott of Sabine. Brother-in-law of Norma Lavalley of Oshawa, Eilene (George) Milligan of Lake St. Peter, Sherry Driscoll of Maynooth, June Marois of Lake St. Peter, and Vince Baragar.  Predeceased by his parents Joe & Barbara (nee Craftchick) Lavalley, all his grandparents, aunts & uncles, his brothers Patrick & Greg, sister Marjorie Holmberg, his in-laws Howard & Helen Baragar, brothers-in-law Garnet Marois, Norm Groomes, Doug Holmberg, Ronald Baragar, daughter-in-law Holly Webber and many cousins.  Ray will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.  Ray was the grown-up version of a little boy who loved trucks. He was happiest driving. He was a car hauler (with multiple safety awards) for 26 years, then after moving back to Lake St. Peter, he drove a dump truck. As a 2x Cancer survivor, he took pride in being a volunteer driver for the Wheels of Hope program. He loved the outdoors. He hunted and fished until he couldn’t anymore. He loved Country and Bluegrass Music.  Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff (from the doctors & nurses to the kitchen staff who kept him so well fed) at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. “Thank you” is inadequate but it’s all we have for the Kmith family. Fred & Ray were more than roommates for 70+ days, they were lifelong friends. And during Ray’s time in the hospital, Fred’s children Bryon, Gary (Phyllis) & Kathy (Jim Smith) became family to Marlene & Wendy. Ray’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Army Navy Air Force Club (55 ANAF Rd. Maynooth, Ontario) on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 2- 4 p.m. & 7- 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at the ANAF Barn on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11a.m with The Rev. David Watson officiating. Cremation will follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Lavalley family would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
