Vivie, Maggie (Baptiste/Horton) |
April 26, 1943 - December 7, 2024 Surrounded by the love of her family, Maggie (Baptiste/Horton) Vivie peacefully began her spirit journey back to Creator on December 7, 2024 in her 82nd year. Maggie was born in Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations on April 26, 1943 to Mary and Harry. As a young child, she attended the former Cecelia Jeffery Indian Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. When she returned to Manitou a couple years later, she lived with her beloved maternal grandparents until they passed during her early teen years. She grew up, married, and had seven children. In 1973, she moved to Hermon, Ontario with her young family. She worked for many years at the Stoner Family Bakery in Bancroft. In later years, after raising her family, Mom enjoyed her grandchildren, an excessive flower and plant collection, listening to country gospel music, watching Senators hockey games on TV, competitive word games, going for long car rides, and more recently, her two spoiled kittyshugs, Barney and Rozie. Mom’s life walk was guided by her devotion to family and deep faith in God. She will be forever remembered by her daughters Wanita, Georgie, Jackie, Karen, Lynn (Paul), Angela, son Floyd (Michelle), adopted sister Martha, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, plus numerous extended family members and friends. Maggie was predeceased by her parents, grandparents Dan and Jessie, adopted parents Fred and Ada, her sisters Jessie, Marie, and Nancy, brother James, son-in-law Nelson and grandson Lovell. A public celebration of life for Maggie will be held at L’Amable Bible Chapel, 26492 Hwy 62S, L’Amable, ON, on Friday, December 13, 2024. The family will receive friends and relatives 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m. presided by Rev. Bill Theobald. Interment will take place in the spring of 2025 at the Church on the Hill, Manitou Rapids Rainy River First Nations Community. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate if memorial donations could be made to CARE North Hastings (carenorthhastings.org/donations) or to Hospice North Hastings (hospicenorthhastings.com/virtual-gifts). CNH provided generous home and health care supports to our mom in recent months. HNH gave our mom and family such compassionate care during her transition hours. The family also thanks her medical team at Bancroft Community Family Health, Community Paramedic Bryce, paramedics Marney and Chuck, the VON team, Bernice from Smiles and Bancroft CarePartners for their extraordinary care for our mom. We are also grateful to Pastor Bill and Sharon for their longtime friendship and daily visits during these past weeks. We say gichi-miigwech from the bottom of our hearts to family, friends and community who provided food, goodies, visits and check-ins. The love and kindness shown to our mom by her care team and friends, and by extension to her family, will always shine brightly in our memories of mom’s transitional journey. May you all walk in beauty. Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
