Oram, Margaret Irene (Shields) |
Irene (Shields) Oram, of Maynooth, formerly Combermere, passed away with her children by her side at Valley Manor on Saturday August 3, 2024, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Wes Oram and cherished mother of her children Jean (Terry), Wesley (Laura), Nolan (Lisa), and proud grandmother of Jesse, Katie (Mike), Tim (Caitlin). Pre-deceased by her parents Neil and Isabella Shields and her brother Orville (Joyce). Irene, and her late husband Wes, loved where they lived and shared Sand Bay Camp on the beautiful shore of Kamaniskeg Lake with thousands of people over their almost 55 years of business. Irene took great pride and care of the camp from the business back office to the cleanliness of her store and cottages. Irene loved to relax out front of the store on summer evenings to greet their campers young and old and all felt welcome to come and sit and have a chat and a cup of tea. Irene had a soft heart for all the children campers and was extra generous with their ice cream and candy. She was quick to laugh, and many people over the years made regular visits to her kitchen table for treats and coffee. During the off season of the campground, Irene loved to bake and was well known for her bread, chelsea buns, cookies, maple syrup pies and tarts and was always asked to bring her baked beans for the fireman’s fundraising pancake breakfast. She always grew a garden and could not wait to make pickles relish, and tomato juice. She also loved needlework, knitting, and quilting and has left behind some beautiful pieces for family to remember her by. Irene loved to catch fish, and it did not matter where! She was always the last person to leave the table at a fish fry. She would spend hours on the ice in a fish hut and her patience and persistence generally paid off. In the summer months, Irene and Wes would go out on the open water, only if it was calm, trolling for lake trout which was her favourite fish. Most vacations, spring or fall, included fishing and or hunting. Irene loved her family deeply and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was dedicated to the success of her children, and her business and by example she taught her children to finish what you start, doing it well and with integrity matters, and that loyalty is important. She supported her children to follow their heart and was always there for them if needed. The family would like to thank the staff of the Valley Manor for their care of Irene over the past three years, but especially for their support in her last three days. A Celebration of Life for Irene will be on Wednesday, August 7th, at The ANAF (55 ANAF Road, Maynooth) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation – Valley Manor, or the Dementia Society would be appreciated.
