Peacefully, at Hastings Centennial Manor, Bancroft, ON, on Wednesday, December 07, 2022.  Bernard Paetzold, age 88, was the beloved husband of the late Shirlene (Linkie) (Mayhew) Paetzold who passed away December 18, 2003; step-father of Mark Mayhew (Karen) of New Carlow, ON, and the late Steven Mayhew; loved Opa of Selene and Madison. Bernard was born in Berlin, Germany, on November 20, 1934, the youngest son of the late Eric and Frieda Paetzold.  As a 16-year-old boy Bernard immigrated to Canada, along with his brother Hans, first living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Bernard was extremely proud of his education earning his Honours B.A. at Waterloo Lutheran University, then upon receiving a scholarship to Yale Divinity School he earned his M.Div., and his M.A. and M. Phil. from Yale Graduate School. Following his ordination Bernard served Christ Lutheran Church in Maynooth, ON where he met and married Shirlene, St. Stephen’s in Schutt, ON, and St. Paul’s Evangelical in Denbigh, ON, from 1974 - 1976; he was then called to St. Peter’s in Alice, ON, Grace Evangelical in Rankin, ON, and Bethlehem Lutheran in Woito, ON where he served from 1976 - 1981. He lastly served as Pastor at Trinity Lutheran  in Ayton, ON from 1981 -1994, retiring in Mount Forest, ON. Cremation has taken place.  A Funeral Service will take place at Christ Lutheran Church, Maynooth, ON, in the spring of 2023, followed by interment in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund, or a Charity of Choice would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
