Barker, Matthew Garrett

August 19, 1969 - November 11, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Matthew Barker announces his passing on Friday, November 11, 2022.  Matt fought very hard to stay as long as he could and he passed peacefully with family by his side.

Matt was the loving and cherished spouse of Andria Maindonald for 16 years.  He was the beloved son of the late Russell and Krisanne Barker of Kitchener.  He was predeceased by his grandparents, Russell and Anne Barker of Kitchener, and Lyle and Martha Springer of Texas.  He was the much loved and proud father of Abigail and Sydney of Kitchener.  Matt will be remembered with love by his Maindonald parents Tim (predeceased) and Carol of Maynooth, and was a special brother to Scott (Melissa), Kelly (Darren), and Heather (Jonathan).  He was the beloved nephew of his Aunt Judie (Rick) Havers of London, Uncle Richard Barker (predeceased) of St. Thomas, Aunt Kelly Barker (predeceased) of London, Uncle Barry (Tanya) Barker of Sarnia, Aunt Kedra (Vincent) Vaccaro of Liberty, Missouri, Uncle Kip (Jan) Springer of Denton, Texas, and Uncle Kraig (Susan) Springer of Grapevine, Texas.  Also surviving are many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins in Canada and the United States.

Matt was a gentle natured, kind person who dearly loved all his family and friends.  He was soft spoken but had a wicked sense of humour.  He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and sharing special moments with them.  Matt and his spouse, Andria, shared a special bond and she was by his side through all of the challenges of the past year and a half.  They loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures together with a special place in their hearts for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This was Matt’s second battle with cancer, having survived it when he was a boy.  Matt was brave and faced the challenges of treatment with grace and dignity.

As per Matt’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life in the spring.  Anyone wishing to make a donation in Matt’s memory is asked to consider the SickKids Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
