It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Verner Meitz, of Bancroft, born August 25, 1923, in Pembroke ON, share his peaceful passing on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Winbourne Long Term Care, in Ajax Ontario. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Toni (Audrey), daughter Penny, infant son Walter, son-in-law Gord Blair, 12 siblings and his parents Albert Rudolph Meitz and Wilhelmina Matilda Witt. He is forever loved and remembered by his daughters Patricia-Anne Smies of Fowler’s Corners (Age), Marilyn Meitz of Stirling (Ron Richards), and Marie Blair of Ajax. Walter is the loved grandfather of Aage (Kathleen), Willem, Michelle (Shane), Leona (Darren), Andrew (Kim), Adam, Stuart, and David (Danielle). He is lovingly remembered by great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nico, Karlie, Ryan, Bryce, Ethan, Emily, Spencer, Hunter, Nathan and Lennon. His many nieces and nephews will lovingly remember the many fishing experiences and the fatherly advice with which he provided them. Walter was a very proud WWII Veteran; he also had seventy-four years of good continuous service with The Sheet Metal Worker’s Local 30; he was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion; he volunteered for Community Care North Hastings for twenty-five years; and he was a Life Long Active Member of The Lutheran Church. Walter’s family will receive relatives and friends at the M.G. Daly Funeral Home (200 Old Hastings Road, Maynooth) on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church (Church Road, Maple Leaf) from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Liedtke officiating. Interment at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, followed by a Church luncheon. Due to COVID-19, strict visitation and service restrictions will be in place - Face masks are requested to be worn. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, CARE North Hastings or Hospice North Hastings would be appreciated by the family.
