Barney, Joseph Stephen

Joseph (“Joe”) Stephen Barney, age 80, beloved husband of Martha (Lankford) Barney, and loving father of Ivan Barney of Combermere, Ontario, and Stacey Lay (Jason) of La Mirada, California, peacefully passed away in his home on Friday, February 26, 2021. He was the loved grandfather of Allison and Issac Lay, and brother-in-law to Carol Roland of Lakewood, Colorado, and Nancy Reinertsen of Apex, North Carolina.  Joe is fondly remembered by his extended family, friends, and colleagues in both Canada, and the United States of America.  Joe was born in Ottawa, Canada in 1940 and grew-up in Lachine, Quebec.  Through-out his childhood, teenage years, and into adulthood, he and his parents would regularly travel up to their family cottage, located on the Madawaska River, near Barry’s Bay, Ontario.  It was no surprise, when Joe retired from Ingersoll-Rand Company (Shippensburg, Pennsylvania) in 2005, and he and Martha relocated from Carlisle, Pennsylvania to Barry’s Bay.  It was there Martha designed and Joe built their retirement home. When the relaxing pace of retirement life became a little dull, Joe went back to work for another twelve (12) years with Load Lifter Manufacturing, Inc. (Stouffville, Ontario), and retired for a second time in 2020.  Joe is remembered for his ever-present and contagious smile.  You would never see him without that smile on his face.  Joe was also a caretaker by nature and loved working and building things with his hands.  To both family and friends, he was known as “Mr. Fix-It”, always ready to lend a helping hand (or a tool) to anyone that needed it.  As per Joe’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services.  Cremation has taken place.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to Graphite Bible Camp (702 Graphite Road, Maynooth, Ontario, K0L 2S0) can be made in Joe’s memory.
