Hollett, Bernice

Bernice passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (O.S.M.H.). She bravely fought a long and courageous battle with kidney and liver disease.

Bernice is mourned by her husband Jim following 58 years of a truly wonderful marriage, her daughter Anna Cuthbertson (Mark), grand-daughters Jessica and Jacqui, and her son Willy (Amy) and grandsons Wyatt, Everett and Seeger. She is predeceased by her eldest son Jamie (1970-1988).

Bernie’s primary focus and greatest love was her family for whom she was always available with words and actions of support, guidance and praise. The greatest beneficiary of her fine qualities was her Husband, who will forever cherish their adventure together.

Bernice truly loved life and her interests ranged widely from a variety of crafts to gardening (she could make a stick bloom), to camping and travel. Throughout her life she was a teacher, a Girl Guide Leader, a long-time CWL Member and a life-long volunteer. Alongside her Husband, she ran two family businesses - Fidelity Stainless and Jay Lake Campground. She always tackled new challenges with vigour and never backed down when the going got tough. Although Bernie endured considerable discomfort and pain, she seldom complained and most often was concerned with the happiness and welfare of others.

In her final years she was challenged with new limitations imposed by arthritis and dialysis, but she was an extremely grateful beneficiary of the O.S.M.H. Home Dialysis Program and the wonderful care and attention provided by the Home Dialysis Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Nutritionists, Technicians and our Trainer/Coach Shelley Johnson RN.

Similarly, during the final days of her life the care provided by the O.S.M.H. ICU team was so very professional and compassionate.

Visitation will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Whitney, Ontario on Friday, February 16 from 2:00-4:00pm, 6:00-8:00pm and Saturday, February 17 from 2:00-3:00pm. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17 starting at 3:00pm, followed immediately by Bernie’s celebration of Life Reception at the Whitney’s Senior’s Centre.
